Brian you expose the under-belly of capatilism, that botttom line thrives on profit. Your thoughts punctuate the obvious that this is insane and immoral. Bottom line is driven by yesterdays bottom line. Nothing new on these headlines other than these bragging levels are taking share holders to new places of false security. Perhaps the key to dropping these giants is channelling our anger towards finding alternatives that actually break the back of the bully on top of the sandpile?!Maybe it's wood pellets, maybe it's electricity powered by windmills, maybe its re-cycled rubber tires...maybe its gathering my dogs daily droppings and donating doo doo to drop-off dump-sites that feed city turbines?!! Lets find options that become a real threat. I think the focus needs to be on alternatives that blind-side the giants. I agree that grumbling at the pumps only increases the purchase of lottery tickets... as we wait to pay at the pumps we secretly hope the numbers of the day will bail us out of our troubles! Ever wondered why more lottery tickets are sold at gas pumps? Maybe this one is for another day, it just seems we need to look at alternatives that are real, sustainable and with the poor in mind, which is why you wrote this in the first place. While in Nepal I saw the students take to the streets due to this very issue,... it's not only about corrupt government....it's not only about greed, and it's not only about profit...but it's also about finding new alternatives. Capitalism understands competition.

Brian.

It is insane.

I'm actually reading a good book, that touches subjects like these....

"The Collapse of Globalism: And the Reinvention of the World" by John Ralston Saul.

People who are working in the decision making positions in these huge multinationals are far from reality. There seems to be no understanding of reality... It seems as though people in the decision making positions are actually dehumanized in reference to their fellow humans..... being solely focused on profit and their bottom line, the decision makers are blind to actual facts and only see numbers, statistics, projections.....

Stuff like that sickens me greatly Brian....
